TUNA, SUSHI & WINE FESTIVAL 2017.

Zadar Tourist Board, in collaboration with City of Zadar, Embassy of Japan to Croatia, Croatian Ministry of Tourism, Croatian National Tourist Board, Croatian Chamber of Commerce, Zadar County Tourist Board and NPO JCEA Japanese-Croatian Exchange Association, is pleased to announce the programme of “Tuna, Sushi & Wine Festival 2017” which will be held from 1st to 5th February 2017.

This year’s festival, third so far, presents a combination and exchange of experiences of cultural, historical and natural Croatian and Japanese resources, together with a gastronomic experience.

The festival is divided into two parts, the professional part of the programme and the public one: The professional section includes education and professional training of the best Zadar and Croatian restaurant chefs in culinary arts by Japanese sushi masters. This will be attended by students of Zadar School of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering. A tour of Zadar and Zadar County is planned for Japanese guests and journalists.

The festival programme open to the public includes origami workshops in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Zadar, a visit to a local tuna farm, a presentation of traditional Japanese martial and defensive arts and skills performed by Zadar sports clubs, a lecture and a photo exhibition of Adriatic tuna at the City Lodge, a gala evening event in the Arsenal, a large public opening ceremony - a gastro event at the Main Square and a week of special offers of tuna specialties at Zadar restaurants.

The coordinator and organizer for the Japanese participants of this year's festival is NPO JCEA Japanese Croatian Exchange Society from Osaka, led by Ms Yamasaki Jelena, which has been successful for 20 years as a bridge between Japan and Croatia by making various promotions and presentations of Croatian tourism, famous personalities from Croatian sport, culture, art as well as presenting original Croatian products and souvenirs at various fairs and events throughout Japan and by organizing Croatian promotional events in Japan.

    Lecture: Tuna Farming in Croatia Ph.D. Krstina Mišlov Jelavić worked for seven yeras as a biologist at the tuna farm company Kali Tuna, the last few years working as Head of the production plant of fishery products in the company Mišlov Ltd. and operates as a representative of the fishing group within the Croatian Chamber of Economy in an Advisory Council for the Mediterranean in the European Commission (MEDAC). In 2013 she made her PhD on the topic of „Optimizing Nutrition of Tuna (Thunnus thynnus L. 1758) in the Cages.“

    Professional section - education in Adriana Hotel Falkensteiner - Borik Resort
    Education in classic traditional Japanese dishes for students of the Zadar School of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering conducted by Japanese sushi masters and famous Zadar masterchefs. MBS TV show's MASTERCHEF Toshihiro Nakatsuji, a Japanese sushi master, will participate together with the professors and students of Zadar School of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering and Zadar chefs as well as assistant sushi masters from Japanese sushi restaurants in Zagreb and Split Ginger Sushi and Samurai.

GASTRO SATURDAY

Due to poor weather conditions the morning programme of the Tuna, Sushi & Wine Festival 2017 in the open, planned and scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 4th February, more precisely the culinary show at the People’s Square at 11 a.m. and the presentations of Japanese defence and martial art skills at the Forum at the same time are unfortunately cancelled.
For the past two years the weather has been favourable, but according to the forecast tomorrow morning will be very windy and rainy. As a result we will not be able to prepare these events in the open because of the complexity of their organization.
We hope however that the Gala Evening Event in the Arsenal, which will also be held tomorrow on February 4th at 8 p.m. will live up to all expectations as the crown event of all activities of this year's festival.


04.02. PEOPLE'S SQUARE - AN EVENT IN THE OPEN AT 11 A.M.

* Opening of the programme - the Croatian national anthem "Lijepa naša domovino" ("Our Beautiful Homeland") performed by the soprano Mayumi Kamei

* Public presentation of culinary skills and tuna specialties by Zadar restaurants at the People’s Square

04.02. THE FORUM - Presentation of sports clubs at 11 a.m.

* Presentation of the samurai bow and arrow skills in collaboration with Yumi Kyudo club at the Forum

* Presentation of Aikido defence martial art in collaboration with the Aikido club „Zadar“ at the Forum

* Presentation of Kendo defence martial art in collaboration with the Kendo club „Ouka“ at the Forum

* Origami Workshops at the Archaeological Museum of Zadar in cooperation with the Croatian Origami Society

04.02. A GALA EVENING EVENT IN THE ARSENAL AT 8 p.m.

* Opening of the programme - the Croatian national anthem "Lijepa naša domovino" ("Our Beautiful Homeland") performed by the soprano Mayumi Kamei

* Welcome drinks by Maraska Liqueur Company

* Performance of cutting tuna by the popular name "Maguro Kaitai" in Japan

* Buffet dinner with tuna and sushi specialties and drinks at reasonable prices, in cooperation with Zadar Association of Caterers, Zadar Caterers Guild and Japanese sushi masters

* Performance of Japanese sushi masters and preparing and tasting of sushi specialties by assistant sushi masters from Japanese sushi restaurants in Zagreb and Split Ginger Sushi and Samurai

* Presentation and tasting of culinary skills and Japanese cuisine specialties and tuna specialties by Zadar restaurants

* MBS TV show’s MASTERCHEF, professional chef and owner of the VIP chain restaurants and tuna cutter Mr. TOSHIHIRO NAKATSUJI together with his co-workers will hold a performance for visitors of the gala evening event in the Arsenal and show how to cut fish needed for preparing sushi, forming of sushi and other tuna dishes with the help from sushi masters Tomislav Begic and Terumi Miyake from Ginger Sushi and San Okamoto from a Japanese sushi restaurants in Split

* The presenter of the gala evening event is Mr Frano Ridjan

* Musical performance by a Japanese jazz singer Kayoko Minami & Black Coffee
